Typically, on the bootup process, the 6k will sync up with the NTP server to update the time. The NTP commands are specific to synch up to any NTP server, and you can get more info on NTP here - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk869/tk769/technologies_white_paper09186a0080117070.shtml
