I usually don't trust the 'Auto' command in
regards to Speed and Duplex settings. If both
devices are produced by the same manufacturer, the
chances of the 'Auto' config working are better,
but it's best to always configure both sides to
the same speed and duplex.

Quoting Rob Nockowitz <robnockowitz@msn.com>: no.. some routing protocols use the link's bandwidth when calculating the metric.. as a result, changing the bandwidth to 10000 on a fastethernet interface will affect the metric for those protocols.. to change the speed, use the "speed 10" under the fastethernet interface to force the speed to 10mbps.. be advised, however, that the other side of the link will need to agree, or be set to auto.. otherwise the link will not come up.. rob ----- Original Message ----- From: Tom Young<mailto:gitsyoung@yahoo.co.jp> To: ccielab@groupstudy.com<mailto:ccielab@groupstudy.com> Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2005 10:44 PM Subject: bandwidth command hi, group A question about bandwidth command, if I set the bandwidth 10000 on a FastEthernet interface, will the FE interface's real speed becomes 10Mbps? thanks alot __________________________________ Save the earth http://pr.mail.yahoo.co.jp/ondanka/> _______________________________________________________________________ Subscription information may be found at: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/CCIELab.html> _______________________________________________________________________ Subscription information may be found at: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/CCIELab.html
