Tony,
I think there might be some reason or purpose to configure something in the
Lab that you will want to remove later, especially if the proctor that wrote
your lab what some good entertainment.....
Take this fake ATM Lab scenerio.
"Manually configure ATM PVC or SVC on a commercial network between R1 and
R2, use the the serial0 interface address of each of the Routers as your
system ID with an Nselector of 00.
In the above question, you were not given the complete NSAP address, you
only have an idea of what the system id part of the NSAP address is and also
you know the nselector, from the word 'commercial' you can figure out what
the AFI id will be '47'. You were not given any PVCs or extral information,
but were asked to do the configuration manually.
It is only wise for one to configure first
1. atm pvc 1 0 16 ilmi
2. configure pvc autodiscovery.
do a:
show ilmi and show pvc
From the show ilmi, you will get the area id, from show pvc after
autodiscovery, you will be able to obtain active PVCs. Copy all the relevant
informations to a notepad then remove the ilmi and autodiscovery
commands.....and you are on your way to build your PVC or SVC manually thus
meeting the objectives of the Lab.
Now you have your complete NSAP address, your PVCs, etc.....
You can think of a similar scenerio using frame-relay.
One do not know if proctors might be this brutal, but it is very important
to be prepare and also to know your way around some bootlenecks purposefully
introduced into the Lab to add to the overall pyschology of the CCIE Lab.
