I can't say that I've seen symbol errors but the CRCs are definitely a
result of the Sups being defective. Believe me, we've exhausted everything
else including swapping fiber patch cables, GBICs, Fiber pairs, Fiber
bundles and have had numerous pairs tested. When the Sups get swapped, the
problem is immediately resolved.
I agree, under "normal" circumstances I would look towards a physical
problem but we've tracked this very specifically to the Sups. I just wanted
to know if anybody else has and it sounds like at least Doug has seen this
also. We've had many, many TAC cases and wind up at the same result - RMA
the Sup. I am taking it up our direct Cisco channel though so I'll see
where that goes.
Thanks to all for the input.
Rik

Doug,
Symbol errors will increment when MAC sees "invalid" symbols. In most cases,
this is a physical problem - Gbics, fiber, etc. This can increment even when
the link is not up because the Mac isn't synchronized and receives noise.
Rik,
I hope you opened up TAC case for these failures. They should atleast
identify the reason for your errors. If not, ask them to escalate the case
:)
