Sheikh,

From what you stated below, '.....2 router connects to vlan 20 R1 and
R2.....' you also stated '......use dhcp server which was configured on R1'

This is my deduction from the above statements, correct me if I am wrong.

*Routers R1 & R2 ethernet/fathethernet interface are connected to ports on
VLAN 20.
*Your users are all on VLAN 20.
*Router R1 interface, R2 interface and your users assigned to VLAN 20, all
have (in case of users, WILL HAVE**) the same subnet IP addresses eg
10.x.x.x or 172.16.x.x, or whatever, but they are all on the same subnet.
*You configured your dhcp server on Router R1, ie R1 is the one handing out
the IP addresses and dhcp info.

If all of the above are true, then you really do not have to do anything
further for your users to get ip address from the dhcp server configured on
R1.

IP helper address are only needed to convert your dhcp broadcast to unicast
and sent them across a routed interface to a dhcp server residing in a
different ip subnet from the dhcp clients.

When your PCs assigned to VLAN 20 comes online, they will send a dhcp
broadcast to 255.255.255.255, R1 been on the same subnet will see the
packets and response because he is the dhcp server, but will not forward the
broadcast.

If the topology above is not exactly as you have it, please provide more
explaination on your topology.

Thanks.
Godswill Oletu

**Note your dhcp server can still assigne ip addresses that have subnets
different from R1ethernet interface's ip.
