I didn't say it wouldn't work without it. I just said the specification
said you have to use MBGP!
Remember, this was first introduced as an inter-service-provider solution!
So that's where the thinking is with it. What you do inside your own
network (anycast MSDP) is your own decision!

Thanks Scott. I thought so too. But in my home lab, I am able to ping group
225.0.0.1 while having more than one peer without MBGP enable. See my
scenario.
R6(as6000)--R8(as6000)--R3(as7000)--R7(as7000)--R2(as7000)--R1(as1000)--r4(a
s4000)--R6(as6000)
R8,R3,R1,R4 are RP for each domain. 225.0.0.1 group is joined at e0 on R7.
Every boudary bgp peers has pim-sm mode only.
r8#show ip msdp sum
MSDP Peer Status Summary
Peer Address AS State Uptime/ Reset SA Peer Name
Downtime Count Count
150.1.3.3 7000 Up 03:27:16 0 1 ?
150.1.4.4 4000 Up 03:27:26 0 0 ?
r8#ping 225.0.0.1
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 1, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 225.0.0.1, timeout is 2 seconds:

Once I shutdown interface between R8 and R3.

Please correct me if I miss something.
