For the sake of assuranse i recommend to use this commands
vtp mode transparant
int range fa0/1 - 24
switchport mode access
switchport nonegotiate
end
this is quite good, because later when you begin to configure trunks, you can only change switchport mode to 'trunk' and not to break rules of 1st task.
