Cisco PVSTP and 802.1D

Hi all:

We are going to connect some Catalyst switches runnnig per-vlan-
spanningtree with NORTEL 450-24T only supporting 802.1D

As you know, the pvstp+ is a cisco propietary extension of 802.1D, then
i suppose the Nortel equipment only have 1 STP instance for all the
vlans.

My question (i can not test the scenario now) is if we need to use MSTP
on the CISCO switches for compatibility issues, or maybe if i fix the
root bridge consistently for all the vlans to the same CISCO switch,
the 2 environments (psvt+ and 802.1D) can coexist having redundant
links between them.

Regards
