Hej,
I can only confirm this story. I certified for CCNP in
December 2001, which means it expired in December
2004. I initially throught that the written CCIE test,
I obtained in September 2003 would extend it, after
digging a bit on the Cisco website I found out that it
didn't
(http://ciscocert.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ciscocert.cfg/php/enduser/entry.php
and then search for "Recertify CCNP and CCDP
Certifications"). I have just checked my status in the
Cisco certification tracker, and my CCNA and CCNP are
defo expired. Not that I worry about it too much, now
that I passed the lab.
So, my thoughts are, that what is written on the Cisco
website, is correct. But, that doesn't mean other
experiences are incorrect... it's just confusing me a
bit ;-) So, for those wondering what to do, I would
assume that if you passed your CCNP before 1/10/2004,
you cannot use the CCIE written test to extend it.
Hope this helps
Greetz
