Just to add on the *general* subject of TDP/LDP and their differences:
1. As the FAQ referenced states, TDP and LDP use TCP ports 711 and 646
respectively to establish a session over which label bindings are
distributed. In addition, TDP and LDP use *UDP* ports 711 and 646 for
neighbor discover.
2. TDP uses a local broadcast, and LDP uses mcast address 224.0.0.2 for
directly connected neighbor discovery. When neighbors are not directly
connected (as, for example, when deploying LDP with draft martini [AToM]
based L2VPNs), unicast destination addresses are used.
3. TDP is Cisco proprietary, while LDP is an IETF standard.
4. LDP provides optional MD5 authentication, while TDP does not.
5. LDP is required for VC label distribution for draft martini [AToM]
pseudowires- TDP cannot be used for this. LDP or TDP can be used for tunnel
LSP label distribution in a draft martini [AToM] environment.
6. LDP (or BGP) can be used for PE to CE label distribution in a carriers'
carrier MPLS architecture. TDP cannot be used.
