It's the same thing Cisco did with the Security stuff... You can be a
Firewall Specialist or IDS Specialist or VPN Specialist... But get 'em all
plus the SAFE exam and you are a CCSP.
It's a good progression for folks...

You may want to start with the QoS test, since most of the content is very
relevant to your current R&S studies.
One other thing to note with the CCVP tests, is that you pick up other
specialization titles along the way. IP Telephony Support Specialist
(CIPT+CVOICE+QoS), IP Telephony Operations Specialist (IPTT+QoS), etc.
A few others are only one test off. IP Telephony Design Specialist
(IPTD+QoS), IP Telephony Express Specialist (CVOICE+QoS+IPTX)
These certifications can be important if your employer needs to meet a Cisco
partner requirement for a telephony specialization.

Thanks Marvin/ James for your insight :-)
Though my top priority now is to get my R & S number , I needed to broaden
my skill set (kind of employer requirement) particularly when we are
embarking on a large scale VOIP implementation on our WAN. And as Marvin
pointed out , may be CCVP courses , just like CCNP will individually tackle
each module more thoroughly than CCIE Voice Written. Hence may be worth
while to go for them.
Perhaps next year with R & S # and CCVP under belt , I can move forward with
my CCIE Voice track prep.
And more importantly this CCVP studies will help me survive in the current
job I guess even though they cause significant distraction to my ongoing R &
S lab studies.
Cheers
- David.
