There will always be cheats out there, but it really comes down to character. It took me 4 tries and 3 years to get my number and at my lowest points I never dreamed of finding a shortcut to achieve this goal. It just would not have as fulfilling. So, I hope you can see why some of us might be upset when people look for shortcuts. The CCIE exam not only tests your technical abilities, for me it tested my fortitude to persevere. I can usually ferret out non-ethical folks like this during the interview process, but some do slip by and give us all a bad rep.

Couldn't resist either ...so into the fray with both feet !!
I find this discussion a bit rich as I know quite a few CCIE's who got their number due to practicing on braindump labs from other candidates. In fact I know one guy who played a statistical game with this as he had quite a few braindump labs that he used to call the ".xxx lab" ".yyy lab" ( after the 2nd Octet of the ip add range ) so by playing a game of probabilities he was pretty sure he would get the ".xxx lab" so he practiced on it one day before the lab exam and lo-and-behold he got that exact paper ...and his number of course. How do I know this ? He rang me straight after the exam ! How would any of you know thats how he got his number ? he had also studied for as long as any of us and had quite a bit of practical experience as well ...so how the hell would you tell ? Can a CCIE answer every question there is ?
What about the guy with 20 years experience and fails the CCIE ...is he less of an Engineer than the guy with a number ?
