Jeff,

        Multilink is not required to use both channels. Multilink is
simply used to optimize the utilization across the links by doing
fragmentation at the PPP layer. By using the "ppp multilink" command
you are essentially telling the router to add an additional segmentation
and reassembly process on the sending and receiving end of the PPP link
respectively.
