Hi,

A while back I looked into this very same issue.

I don't remember all the details but here are some things you can check:

After configuring your MQC, do a show fram pvc #.

In the output, you'll see how many packets were marked with DE.

Make sure you clear your counters first, so that what you see is relevant to
the traffic you just sent.

Also, be VERY AWARE that MQC might or might not affect traffic generated by
your router - I don't remember exactly under which conditions it does or
doesn't.

Also, as I recall, you don't have to be concerned with whether the traffic
is generated by the router or is transit traffic if you use the legacy
method of setting the DE bit.

Also, you should experiment with what happens when you apply the service to
the main interface and the pvc is configured on a sub-interface.

It can get complicated real fast. But, as I recall, if the service-policy
is configured on the physical itnerface, the policy is inherited by the
sub's, but there are exceptions so you have to play around with this.

HTH. Tim

Subject: Setting Frame DE before sending to frame provider

> In most of the docs on /univercd they talk about frame-relay DE and FRTS
... Say I want to choose what traffic that I want dropped in the case where
congestion occurs and the frame provider is dropping frames . Using mqc
would this mark say packets that are routine with DE to 1 so that if
provider starts dropping traffic it would drop this DE marked 1 first ?
