Fw: IE lab 16 - snmp v3 MISTAKES ???

Hi guys,

There seems to be a couple of disconnects between the task requirements and
the provided solution in this lab. I'm hoping someone can

help me sort out these apparent discrepancies.

In 10.4, it says the mgmt station will be expecting traps to be sent using
this username = IELABUSER and password = CISCO.

But, the solution has this command configured:

snmp-server host x.x.x.x version v3 priv IELABUSER

Shouldn't CISCO have been used instead of IELABUSER? (The Doc-CD shows that
the community-string should follow "priv".)

Also, shouldn't the type of authentication be the same in the snmp-server host
command and the snmp-server user command?

snmp-server host x.x.x.x version v3 priv IELABUSER
                                                    ^^^^^

snmp-server user IELABUSER IELABGROUP v3 auth md5 CISCO
                                                                       ^^^^^

Notice that in the first command it's using priv which means encrypted but in
the 2nd command, auth is used which doesn't encrypt.

TIA, Tim
