It shouldn't as this is 2004, but as an old school cisco guy and experienced
with their OIR (online insertion removal) stuff I would submit a change
control and plan for a down time of 15 minutes just in case. That way if
something does happen with the insertion(causing the backplane to hiccup)
and this does happen, you are covered. Or if there is an issue with the
syncing you are covered. If nothing happens then no big deal with the
schedule outage. Make sure the replacement sup is cleared of any old code.
Better safe than sorry.

Subject: OT: Cisco 6509 switch

Got a quick question. I have a Cisco 6509 switch with redundant Sup.
engine and each with MSFC module. Today, I just got a RMA replacement for
the secondary Sup. module and MSFC. If I pop it into the second slot of
6509 switch, is it gonna cause any traffic disruption when it sync up with
the first Sup.? Cisco engineer told me that it won't. But I'd like to be
very cautious about it. Is there any gotcha I need to be aware of? Any
comment is appreciated. Please reply to my email directly. Thanks a lot.
