I believe the the CCIE #'s started at 1024 and you have to consider that over 10 years how many have become decertified.

Why are we up to CCIE number 14,000+ but the Cisco.com site shows the total number of CCIE's to be 11,745 (last updated 11.1.2004). Has the number jumped 3000 CCIEs in the last month or did 3000 CCIEs let their cert expire?
