Exactly -- this is pretty much what I did, except that I 'lost' a year since
I was nearly at the end of my one-year suspension. I was hoping that taking
the written would have covered me for two years from the recert test date,
but alas, it didn't... If I was taking it before my suspension started, I'd
of gotten 4 years, too... Your recertification deadline stays at every
other year regardless of when you actually recertify. Since I am now back
on track and took the test a second time after my 2005 recertification, I am
now current until my August, 2007 deadline, so I can't even try to 'recert'
again until August next year. Personally, I'm not even going to mess with
it until '07 since I just started an evening master's program that will
finish in May, 2007 -- talk about timing... I'm sure I will do the same
thing in 2007 (and get four years that time). :-)
But Anthony, the good thing is that you don't need do anything special to
become 'unsuspended.' Your CCIE will still show up under your certification
profile and it will show as suspended (so you really don't get any benefits
with it online), but once you pass your test you automatically become
current again -- you'll get the congratulations email from the CCIE team and
then that is that. And, all you have to do is what 72 hours (I think) to
retake it. $300 is $300 but it was nice to get myself ahead again...

Jeff - You can actually recert for 4 years. Let's say
your recert is due by October 1st, 2004. You can take
the recert exam September 25th which extends you to
October 1st, 2006. Then after October 1st 2004 (ie
within 2 years of expiration date of Oct 1, 2006) you
can retake the written (Say October 2nd) and that will
extend it out to October 1st, 2008.
Hope this helps.
