Just speaking in general... not in a particular environment... just focusing
on methods of marking traffic of a particular choosing to set as DE.... I am
just exploring the different methods... Typically when most are having
conversations of Policing and Shaping with regards to Frame relay they
explain exactly what you just stated Tony , which was shape to your CIR and
select your traffic to set as DE... From what I have seen this is always
performed via FRTS , can it also be done with say the FRE-DE in a MQC setup
or does that perform a different function , and must be used say within a
map-class ?

Are we talking real world or lab?
I actually work for a tier 2 provider.
That is not the case at all. Only traffic above CIR is treated as discard
eligible by the provider.
If you have traffic that you absolutely do not want discarded, you would
then traffic shape that important traffic below CIR and mark the rest as DE.

As I understand it you can do one of two things. If you don't set any
traffic explicitly as DE, your provider can just treat all traffic as
discard eligible in which case all traffic is a potential candidate to be
discarded if needed.
The other option is to mark certain traffic as discard eligible and that
traffic will be discarded first in times of congestion.

Is it required to use FRTS / map-class to set your traffic as DE to your
frame provider ?
