I think IP MTU only sets L2 frame containing IP-protocol while MTU set frame
regardless of L3 type.
So you can have ip mtu = 200 for IP traffic and mtu = 300 for non-ip
traffic.
If you specify MTU not IP MTU, then IP MTU will be same as MTU by default.
But if you specify IP MTU, then you will only change MTU for IP traffic not
the MTU for all the traffic.

I'm a little confused between the commands 'mtu' and 'ip mtu'.
According to the Doc CD, changing 'mtu' automatically changes the 'ip mtu',
but the reverse is not true.
So what exactly is 'ip mtu' used for??
