Unless my spam filters are going too strong, I haven't seen a response from
SCOTT! Where are you, man! Are you a big chicken, or what??? C'mon out and
fight!!! If I missed his response, I'm sure he'll correct me in short order!
:)
;)
Seriously tho, I feel like I've just been stomped under by a clash of the
Titans... Every time I see such a clash I want to put my fingers in my ears
and go "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!"
For the record, Wayne Lawson is an exceptionally all around tallented
individual... both as entrepreneur and an engineer! Wayne is also a very
personable, and generous individual. Wayne's personal commitment to this
list, to the integrity of his product, and to the betterment of the CCIE
community as a whole is beyond doubt!
Case in point... He has personally assisted me in many an offline
conversation with matters technical. But he's more than just about being
technical... When I flunked my first attempt on July 27th, I was distraught,
and ready to throw in the towel... I didn't want to post my story on
groupstudy because quite frankly I didn't want to depress anyone else as I
was... (just a personal choice). But I really wanted to talk to someone...
Scott and Wayne were like big brothers to me (even tho I'm older than both
of 'em)... Scott was actually in RTP the day I took my test... I had just
taken his bootcamp the week before too... His humor and encouragement helped
take a lot of the sting out of my first failure... and I spoke with Wayne by
email and phone... they took substantial personal time to counsel me and
encourage me... so, they are not just about selling a book or CD's or
bootcamps... They are about the PERSONAL touch... They are about the
relationship (totally platonic, I must add... tho I did offer sexual favors
in exchange for either of them sitting the Lab in my place next time... They
politely declined! Scott, Wayne, the offer is still good! ;) Anyhow...
Those guys are about follow through... They are about RESULTS! You know,
when I read through the entire exam at the beginning, I was very confident
that I knew how to do every task... the bottom line for me turned out to be
stressing out and time management! That's the biggest killer for me...
Wayne's and Scott's content were enough for me to pass... but I failed
myself, not due to their content... I can speak from experience that their
content covers such a broad spectrum and in such extreme depth that it
absolutely will arm any student with the know-how and methodology to pass...
It is my opinion that anyone who fails who went through those labs very
likely just has time management issues or stress management issues...
because their content is highly professional and highly detailed...
Scott Morris is an industry unto himself. I took Scott's class and it was
some of the most outstanding learning I've ever ever experienced. I also
took a bootcamp from another vendor out in California, and they were good
too in their own right... but, they didn't even come CLOSE to the depth and
breadth and effectiveness of Scott's class. Wayne is a brilliant businessman
and exceptionally tallented engineer! Just because he chooses to take many
of his discussions to his own forum or off line should in no way discount
his engineering tallents... he is trying to run a business... and in my
estimation, is doing a damn good job of it... I know I can go on his forum
and write him personally if I have a question that really stumps me. He
knows how to lead me to the answer, not spoon feed it to me. I learn better
that way... that's MY learning style. I like Wayne's and Scott's approach.
So, to conclude my extreme verbosity... I want to say personal Thanks to
Wayne and Scott for their encouragement and support... for giving me the
courage to go again on Sept. 13th in RTP! Their advice to me was to strike
while the iron is hot...and that's what I'm going to do... and I'm going to
keep on going... re-go over the labs to refresh... and just work on my time
management! And I'm going to go until I pass this damn thing...
I also want to thank the Brian's for their very detailed posts her on
Groupstudy. These guys add facets to the groupstudy diamond (ok, so I suck
at metaphors).
And I also want to thank John Matijevic... Yes, John is mildly eccentric,
but I like that... So am I! John M. is (as are so many on here) an
exceptional engineer. John's personal story of persistence and overcoming
adversity I find highly encouraging! Five times and I'd have shot myself!
John is a very accessible and friendly and giving. He has made himself
available to me via IM over many hours of online discussion... I can tell
you for sure that this guy knows his 5h!T!
Speaking of mildly eccentric... Scott Morris... He first comes across as
this devilishly mischevious "I'm gonna make you hate me" kind of teacher...
but then you quickly find out that, yes, you really do want to kill him!
But, not because he's a bastard... (which he is... ;). The bottom line, he a
freakin' great TEACHER!
Joking aside... Just take Scott's class and if you don't laugh every 10
minutes, then you're either dead or deaf... but he signs his jokes too, so
even the latter is no excuse! ;) He has the best sense of humor on this
list! He uses it to great effect in his teaching. His is a highly effective
in the learning environment. His content is totally intimidating. I can
still remember nearly every question from his practice tests to this
minute...and the solutions! And it's been over 7 weeks.
Hope I haven't stirred up the shitake too much... and just when you thought
it was safe to open your inbox again!
Hasta!
