There is a section on this idea ("DLSw Backup over DDR") in Solie's CCIE
Practical Studies Volume I - Chapter 13.
To keep the session active you can change the keepalive value to zero
(on the local peer for both routers). This will prevent the peers from
knowing if the other side is active. However, if you are doing this
over DDR and you want the session torn down (just not before DDR is
setup), you will need to set a timeout.

Subject: More DLSW - Timeouts
Hey everyone,
I am working on a practice lab in which DLSW sessions should not
timeout. However the "timeout" attribute in the remote-peer command
only accepts values from 3 through 3600:
<snip>
R2(2503)(config)#dlsw remote-peer 0 tcp 1.1.1.1 timeout ?
<3-3600> Remote peer transmission timeout
</snip>
Is it possible that this requirement is looking for turning off
keepalives on each side locally? I don't think this would satisfy a
requirement for not "timing out" the connection though.
Thoughts?
