Peasah,

From your personal experience, can you give us some insights into the
differences/similarities between the path to Ph.D and CCIE? i.e compare the
studies, the exams, the dissertation, etc leading to your Ph.D with the
series of studies, certifications, practices, etc leading up to your CCIE
lab and the lab itself.

I mean the difficulties, the challenges, the involvements, the stress, the
sleepless nights, the mental involvements, etc.

I had been trying for some time now with much success, to either draw a
parallel or a tangent between both.

Statistically, the number of CCIEs worldwide is far lesser than the number
of Ph.Ds, however one do not have any means to determine how many of these
Ph.Ds studied in Networking/IT related fields. If this statistics were exact
and specific, it would have given one a little insight into the level of
difficulties and involvements in both endeavours. As putted today, the
failure rate for CCIE first attempts is 75%, I know Ph.D first attempts
failure rate is not that urgly. Again, Cisco have a mechanism by which they
determine who must failed or passed their CCIE lab. Understanding this
mechanism or their scoring pattern is like chasing a moving target...."when
you think you have catched up with it, you discover a twist that puts it a
step beyond you" and I think Cisco likes it that way. At least if the
passing rate increases to 75% or 90%, the CCIE cert. will lose some of its
catches, bells, glows, patronage and offcourse less money to some
corporations.

Your help in comparing these two monsters will be appreciated, because one
intend chasing the Ph.D mirage after I am done catching up with this CCIE
mirage.

Thanks and Congrates!!!
