Hello DD,
Its not quite the same thing, the interface level command establishes
the level of adjacency, very similar to ospf. Where as the is-type under
the routing process, specifies the level the ios software operates. By
default it is a level-1-2 router. Again similar to OSPF area border
router, backbone router, concepts.

Am I right in assuming that

#router isis
#isis-type level-1

is the global equivalent of

#int <your choice>
#isis circuit-type level-1

The circuit type is an interface level command that achieves the same as
the
isis-type command. Could someone please clarify if I am not correct.
