Hi,

Could somebody kindly explain the purpose of Voice VLAN for me?

When a IP phone attatch to a switch port, this port should be trunk port.
Therefore, the voice traffic comming from the IP phone should be tagged
in 802.1q frames. Then why we still need a voice VLAN?

Is it for overriding the "VLAN ID"?

And then, why is there a command "switchport voice vlan dot1p"? What
does switch actually do when we enter this command?

These confused me for a long time, hope somebody can help me to clarify.
Thanks a lot!

H.L. Chang
