Phil,

Let me first preface my remarks by telling you I don't (yet) have any ccie
so I'm clearly not the most qualified person to respond.

But, having said that, I think your time frame might play a big role in your
decision.

This is what I understand. Sometime fairly soon ( I don't remember the
exact date), Cisco plans to change the format of the Security Lab such that
the routing and switching portion is already preconfigured for you. Once
that happens, the Security Lab will be almost 100% focused on Security.

However, until that change goes into effect, about 50% of the Security Lab
is still focused on R&S type material. So,if you know your R&S material
really well, you should earn about 50 points right off the bat.

HTH, Tim

Subject: CCIE Security - advice from qualified or studying CCIE people

study, which books etc. However one of them pointed out to me that as I have
been doing firewalls since TIS, have a large ISP and Telco background and I
have just started on an IPSEC project it might be better for me to have a
quick look at the CCIE Security exam instead. The reason for getting a CCIE
is simply because my clients now want more than just my CCNP CCDP. They are
demanding CCIE. 9 years experience apparently doesn't count :)

sample questions and while when I originally tried the CCIE R+S questiosn I
got 2, maybe 2.5 right on this one I got all 5 right. Which started me
thinking about the CCIE Security exam.

chaps and find out what they think of the qualification, has it helped them
etc. and how hard it was to achieve. I have Checkpoint CCSA and CCSE for
v3,4 and NG. I'm just wondering if CCIE Security would be an easier way for
me to get my CCIE. (Yes, I know no CCIE is easy but those sample questions
really seemed like no brainers, are they truly representative of the exam?
If so I'm changing track).
