Very well written Howard . To add to what you
said , I would like to point out that people on this list form a
community and its really not very much out of the ordinary for a
community to share its Joys . When some one on the list passes the CCIE
Lab , we feel happy for him . Why ? We don't know the person . Two
reasons . One , of course that person inspires us . The second is that
everyone feels this is a community and when a member of your community
does well , you Genuinely feel happy for them . Many congratulations
Scott !! My daughter was born 1 year ago after I passed my CCIE R&S . I
can feel your Joy !!!. Well, this is the only time I can give advice to
Scott so here goes .
Don't forget to air the kid for 5 minutes after every diaper change ,
otherwise --- diaper rash --- baby will be miserable and in turn baby
will make parents miserable . LOL
Have fun ,
Jas

That's odd. When were you added to the moderator team? It's odd that
I don't see your name on that list. For the record, mine is on it.
As a moderator, I think it's perfectly appropriate to recognize a
long-term contributor with a major personal event, just as some
reasonable level of humor can both lift tension -- and, when
technical, even provide tricks for remembering some point of
technology. There have been times when a contributor has been ill,
and people have taken notice.
Maintaining a reasonable humane quality, while staying focused, is
even relevant to the focus of the list. Many people have posted how
they dealt with stresses in passing, in failing and preparation.
Sometimes that comes across as a cry from the heart, and the people
here will understand it better than most.
Having a sense of the people involved can help under stress,
specifically including the exam itself. In the early days of CCIE, to
the best of my knowledge, only one person that was a CID or CIT
instructor didn't pass the first time -- because that person got
angry with the proctor. Said instructor passed easily the second
time. Some human discussion, I suspect, will help people deal with
proctors.
I assume that anyone at a technical level at which they consider the
CCIE should be able to invoke a simple mail or news filtering rule.
This thread hasn't changed titles--until you tacked on "(Is this a
technical discussion???)", possibly breaking the filtering rules for
people who chose, quietly, to ignore the thread.
I personally tend to find people who use "chat speech" such as
referring to "you" as "U" rather mindless, but that's obviously a
personal opinion. If, however, you find this list too mindless, or a
source of spam, an obvious solution is unsubscribing.
