advertising an interface in BGP

is there a difference between the following?

router bgp 100
net 150.1.1.1 m 255.255.255.0

and

router bgp 100
redistribute connected ... assuming that 150.1.1.1 is a loopback interface or
a connected interface? i recall that IGP's, using the redistribute command
does not active the protocol on the interface but using the network command
does.....does this sound right?
