Could anyone explain why a router is able to join the tree (*,224.0.1.40)
from a mapping agent two hops away on a sparse-mode scenario ??? I would
have expected this router not to join it but everything was working fine ?!?

Auto-listener was not enabled nor dense mode.
For those who have IE book it is lab 18. R3 is the router abnd SW2 is the
mapping agent ,
