Congratulations!!

You are really looking ahead. You said:

You could recertify in a week or so, and it would get you the same length of
recertification that you will get if you wait until the day before your CCIE
expires. I thought of doing this, but did not. If I were not involved in
writing CCIE training material I would be pretty rusty now.
