RE: Logging Options

Kenneth,

I was only answering the 'logging 10.10.10.10' part. Logging to the
console console is enabled by default, so the command 'logging console'
will accomplish nothing.

Thanks,

Yasser

Yasser,

Your answer is half true. "Logging 10.10.10.10" will send logs to a
syslog server, and will default to informational messages and anything
more important (6 or below). You are correct in that "Logging
10.10.10.10" will not log debugging.

However, Ahmed also asked about "logging console" which _will_ by
default log all messages, _including_ debugging (level 7 and below).

Ahmed - keep in mind you can check this very very easily by getting
access to _any_ IOS platform. See below:

<snip>

Router2#sh log
Syslog logging: enabled (0 messages dropped, 0 flushes, 0 overruns)
    Console logging: disabled
Monitor logging: level debugging, 0 messages logged
Buffer logging: level debugging, 38 messages logged
Trap logging: level informational, 42 message lines logged

Router2#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Router2(config)#logging cons
Router2(config)#logging 10.10.10.10
Router2(config)#exit
Router2#sh lo

Syslog logging: enabled (0 messages dropped, 0 flushes, 0 overruns)
Console logging: level debugging, 38 messages logged
Monitor logging: level debugging, 0 messages logged
Buffer logging: level debugging, 39 messages logged
Trap logging: level informational, 43 message lines logged
Logging to 10.10.10.10, 1 message lines logged

Router2#conf t
