Multicast and Tunnel

After configuring IP PIM Sparse-Dense Mode between R1, R2 and R3, (R1 beeing the RP) R1 answered the ping from R3. The problem is that R2 is Hub, and R1 and R3 are Spoken routers. I expected R2 received the ping from R2 and do not forwarded it to R1 (so it would be necessary a tunnel between R1 and R3). Am I missing something?
