Yes, I guess "encapsulation failure" does not mean "trunk failure" at all !!
I would have lost all the points in a simple question :((
So lab tip: read all the words of every question, hehe.

As I read the phrasing of the task requirements in your post, I
immediately thought "native vlan." Reading further, I took it to mean
