Hi,
-> 1) Is this the only way to config ppp aver ATM? If not, what other ways
are there?
You can also use aal5snap encapsulation and use the "protocol ppp
virtual-template" or "protocol ppp dialer" command.
-> 2) Is there an example of this way somewhere on the Doc CD or should I
just memorize this?
Dunno (never looked for it).
-> 3) In the above example, will broadcast and multicast, by default transit
over this interface or are there additional config commands which are
necessary for that type of traffic? If so, what?
This is controlled by the virtual access interface, which by default will
allow broadcast and multicasts.
-> 4) What are the pro's and con's of config ppp over ATM?
Authentication, multilink, etc...
-> 5) Could someone explain the underlying logic of the above config or
point me to where I can find out and learn what's going on here?
I think it is a proprietary Cisco encapsulation optimized for PPP (unlike
aal5snap which is used to transport other kinds of traffic, like IP
directly).
Just trying to help, I am no ATM guru at all.
Cheers,
Ato.
