OK, just for the groups info.

In my testing and with the help of vconsole, I think we have found the
problem.
If the idle timers are set the same on both ends, certain call closure
messages are not being sent to the end devices.
In my case, I hadn't set any timers, however I could duplicate the problem
by matching up idle-timeout messages.
If I changed the values on either end, it works fine.

I must also say that Im impressed with the customer service of vconsole. Its
10:30pm and vconsole has someone manning the
Support e-mail address, and actively responding with questions and answers.

Once again, Im not affilated with them, but I wanted to give them a public
thanks for the help!

Subject: ISDN Config problem?

Im practicing up on ISDN configuration, and I keep running into an issue
that I cant find the fix for.

Im using the vconsole 2 port U interface ISDN simulator. ( latest firmware )

2 routers, 2610's with BRI WIC's.
12.2(23) IP/FW/IDS 3DES code.

Config:
( Dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit on both)

R1:
interface BRI0/0
 ip address 13.13.13.1 255.255.255.0
 encapsulation ppp
 dialer map ip 13.13.13.2 name R3 3174029730 dialer-group 1 isdn
switch-type basic-5ess no cdp enable !

R3:
interface BRI0/0
 ip address 13.13.13.2 255.255.255.0
 encapsulation ppp
 dialer map ip 13.13.13.1 name R1 3178581655 dialer-group 1 isdn
switch-type basic-5ess no fair-queue no cdp enable !

The initial call goes through fine, however after I make the call the first
time, the B channel stays up, or so the router says:
Whats weird is that the status shows a B in use, but the active doesn't.

R1#sho isdn stat
Global ISDN Switchtype = basic-ni
ISDN BRI0/0 interface
        dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = basic-5ess
    Layer 1 Status:
        ACTIVE
    Layer 2 Status:
        TEI = 66, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = MULTIPLE_FRAME_ESTABLISHED
    Layer 3 Status:
        0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
        CCB:callid=8001, sapi=0, ces=1, B-chan=1, calltype=DATA
    Active dsl 0 CCBs = 1
    The Free Channel Mask: 0x80000002
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 1
R1#sho isdn active

Doing a shut/no shut on the bri interface allows me to make an initial call again after which the channel shows as above.

I have tried 2 different code revisions with the same result. This only happens with the basic-5ess setting. If I change to basic-ni I don't have the problem. I work with basic-ni all the time, however I have limited experience with basic-5ess so I guess it *could* be a config problem.

I have tried configuring the ISDN sim with 0 for a single spid, both spid's , nothing for spids and a single spid, but nothing helps.

Anyone have ANY idea what is causing the router to think that a B channel is still active? This happens on both routers, which makes me believe that it's a simulator problem rather than a router config problem.

Thanks

Larry
