For the join/leave portion of functionality that's correct. For the
treatment of the multicasts in reference to the hardware queue and process
switching, that benefit will be seen whether you are in sparse or dense
mode.

Technically it can also be used in a sparse-dense configuration,
but will only be applicable to groups that are in sparse mode, as it
requires the explicit join messages that are inherent to sparse-mode
operation.

Isn't "ip pim nbma-mode" used primarily for "ip pim sparse-mode" and not for
"ip pim sparse-dense-mode"?
