I am trying to change port priority on 3550 switch, but getting the error
message,
Rack1SW1(config-if)#spanning-tree vlan 16 port-priority 50
% Port Priority in increments of 16 is required
Scenerio,
S1 and S2 are connected via three physical trunk ports 1,2 and 3
respectively.
S1 is root bridge for Vlan 16 and without defaul settings Port 1 is in
forwarding mode for vlan 16 and port 2 and 3 are in blocking mode.
Port 1 wins the election because the Cost and Port priority are same for all
three ports, but based on lowest port id 128.1 for port 1, it wins the
election.
I tried to change the port priority of port 3 to 50 so it port id will become
5.3, and then would like port 2 to have precedence over port 1 if port 3 goes
down.
The simple logic would be to change the
port priority such as 100 for port 3, and it will become the root port, then
port prirority such as 110 for port 2, and will become the second best root
port,
if the above two goes down then eventually port 1 will go in forwarding mode.

Ahmed
