RIP

I need a verfication.

I was reviewing the book "Troubleshooting IP Routing Protocols" Section Rules
for Sending and Receiving Updates. Authors have done a great job, but one
thing I didn't see and wanted some help.

Scenerio:

R1 and R2 connected via 131.108.2.0/24

R1 has other networks such as 131.108.5.0/24 (Same Major Network), and
137.99.88.0/24 (Different Major Network)

R2 will receive the routes in a format

131.108.5.0/24
137.99.0.0/16

Now if I change the subnet mask of 131.1.0.5.0 to a different mask, then I
know that r1 will ignore sending the update because of the different masks,
but what happens if I change the mask of 137.99.88.0/24 to 137.99.88.0/16.
Will router 2 will still be able to receive 137.99.0.0/16. Please advise

The second case I tested that the above problem would not be an issue with
RIP2, but will be an issue if I turned off no-auto summary on r1.

Thanks,
