Hi Errol,
-> One only use input when classifying traffic otherwise always use output
when setting congestion management, congestion avoidance and shaping &
policing. Is this correct?
Most times that is the case, but you can also police for incoming traffic
in, say, FastEthernet interfaces, instead of doing it outwards in the lower
bandwidth serials, it depends on your design.
-> Secondly, when configuring QoS on a router does one need to enable CEF?
AFAIK, this is a requirement only if you are using NBAR for classification.
Cheers,
Ato.

When applying a QoS policy to an interface the syntax is as follows:
Router(config-map-class)#service-policy output | input policy-map
One only use input when classifying traffic otherwise always use output when
setting congestion management, congestion avoidance and shaping & policing.
Is this correct?
Secondly, when configuring QoS on a router does one need to enable CEF?
Thanks
Errol
