There is a LOT to think about before just magically doing that. :)

The web link I sent covers the basics on making a phone connect to the
router. From there, the router will need dial-peers with a destination in
mind of where to go otherwise.

So for dealing with your friend, you'll have to get into the whole concept
of calling, dial plans, codec's and the like.

Have fun playing though! That's where you'll learn the most!

Hi Scott,

I have read your URL, thanks for that!!!

What I'm curious is that with this ITS, can I allow my IPPhone to talk to
the outside world? i.e. would I be able to substitute my home phone with
this Cisco IP Phone, so my friend can still call me as per normal?

If you have any instructions to set this up, it would be greatly
appreciated.

Cheers,
L.

You can run ITS (IOS Telephony Services), or now called Call Managed
Express
on a sufficiently configured router to control your IP Phone.
Otherwise,
yes, you will need a Call Manager server setup.

For
