Scott/Bob,

Was trying to research some more into this:

If we see the requirement (and hopefully i understand it) it expects us to filter IGMP join messages for group 224.0.0.1 from some Rx on the vlan being dropped. Since it is a lan and if there is a reciever on it like a PC, the 3550 should drop the request.

Q1. The 2 solutions that we have seen and doc CD only shows with routers involved.IS it any different if PC devices are involved ? dont think so.

Q2. IGMP profile prevents/filters IGMP between routers but they will try as u say ....So the router keeps trying and the 3550 keeps dropping it if router is connected to port say fa0/1 or whatever... So if we have a 3550 between 2 routers then the 3550 has effectively dropped and blocked the IGMP joins from the routers. Will the same hold good for PC Rx.

Q3. With IGMP stub routing once again only routers are shown. So is any diff for PC based Rx at all ? i dont think so.

So what is the difference between the 2 then ? like some adv or disv or one over the other.

Thanks,
Annu
