I found that c3550 supports 128 instances of STP. I tested it.
I also tested MST with only one STP instance for all vlans between 2 cat3550s. It works ok with 128+ vlans or any number of vlans.

Also 2950 with enhanced image supports MST.

I didn't immediately find documentation relating to the 3500 series of switches. However, I know that the limitation exists on that series as well.

Supported Spanning-Tree Instances
The switch supports the per-VLAN spanning tree (PVST) and a maximum of 64 spanning-tree instances. For information about how spanning tree interoperates with the VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), see the "STP Configuration Guidelines" section.

Hi.

Can anyone please post a link to this problem?
I can't find anything on CCO that would say how many STPs a given switch supports. Product reference guide says 250 vlans but this is rediculous.
