I didn't immediately find documentation relating to the 3500 series
of switches. However, I know that the limitation exists on that
series as well.

Supported Spanning-Tree Instances
The switch supports the per-VLAN spanning tree (PVST) and a maximum of 64
spanning-tree instances. For information about how spanning tree
interoperates
with the VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), see the "STP Configuration
Guidelines" section.

Subject: RE: What happens with too many VLANs?
Hi.
Can anyone please post a link to this problem?
I can't find anything on CCO that would say how many STPs a given switch
supports.
Product reference guide says 250 vlans but this is rediculous.
Thanks,
Marko
