Jeff,

Have you tried changing the name in your dialer map ip statement to match
what the remote router is actually sending? Take a look at the debug and see
what you think.

Run a debug ip packet detail while you are doing your pings. If you see
encapsulation failure, it is a good indication you have a map problem. That
will help you determine what the problem may be with pinging your local
interface.

lab-r2#
dialer map ip 172.16.12.1 name lab-r1 broadcast 2105550001

lab-r1#
dialer map ip 172.16.12.2 name lab-r2 broadcast 2105550002

spids. Everything seems to work great save that traffic never seems to go
across. Attempting to ping the other side brings up BRI0/0:1 but OSPF never
forms an adjacency, it just times out after the idle-timeout and drops until
the next ospf hello to 224.0.0.5. I've stipped all the fancy configs from
the interfaces, but no change. The interface shows packets in and packets
out. Then I tried to ping the router's own BRI interface IP and it cannot
(is this normal?), so I'm like is GOD telling me to go drink on New Year's
Eve?
