let me correct my previous statement,
assert mechanism is for dense mode + bidir sparse-mode.
but not for pure sparse-mode
and when it comes to your question,
"who will forward the multicast traffic in sparse-mode?"
answer:
if the spt (rooted at the source), and the RPT coincide,
DR forwards the traffic to the subnet.
else multicast traffic is received via only the SPT,
after the router receives the first multicast packet,
unless spt-threshold is configured.
that case
SG RP bit prunes are sent to RP, and multiple copies
of multicast traffic is prevented that way.

Subject: PIM Sparse Mode Desginated Forwarder and Designated Router
Dear all,
Just want to confirmed is it possible that the Designated Forwarder
(elected by asset message) and Designated Router (elected by hello message)
of a subnet be the different routers?
In sparse mode, only DR will join the source tree and undergo the
switchover to the SPT. Does it mean that multicast will only flow to the DR
and flood to the subnet? If the DR is not the Designated Forwarder (which
has the best route to the source in teams of AD/metric), the multicast will
flow in a suboptimal path. Any thoughts?
Best Regards,
William Chen
