If I remember correctly (I don't know if this addresses your question
directly) HSRPv1 addresses are 00:00:0C:07:AC:X, X being the standby
group in HEX formet.

I know v2 and GLBP allow for more then 255 groups, but i'm not
familiar with their L2 addressing schemes.
