RE: ISDN FLOATING STATIC

Exactly. It just says that a network is reachable via that interface (or
via the next hop which could be accessible via your ISDN) and then it still
relies on interesting traffic. The only technology that will bring up the
ISDN without regard to interesting traffic is dialer-watch.

Here's a good link to read for dialer-watch

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk133/technologies_configuration_examp

The other technology of backup interface will put the backup interface into
a standby mode while the primary is up, once the primary goes down, the
"backup interface" will move to down, and then interesting traffic can
trigger it to call.

Check out this link

Hope that helps.

Tim,

So, you are saying it does not work like dialer-watch where the isdn comes
up automatically when the route disappears ?

So, floating static will not automatically dial the isdn line right ?

Thanks,
Paul

Interesting traffic is what brings up the link (as defined by your
dialer-list, in your case a ICMP echo is doing it) not necessarily the fact
that a route points to an interface.

Subject: ISDN FLOATING STATIC

Hi,

I have enabled a floating static route as DDR. The floating static route
does get installed when the ospf route disappears, however it will not
automatically kick up the isdn line ?

I have to ping to get the isdn line to come up.

Any help appreciated,

Thanks.
Paul
