If i'm using hyperterminal with my keyboard set to french, i'v got the exact
same problem that you are talking about. If i set the keyboard to english
(US) then ctrl-shift-6 - X works.

I see you've tried Cntl-Shift-6 then X , have you tried Cntl-Shift-6-6
and then X ?
