Hi,

Two level2 IS-IS routers don't need to be in the same area - that's the
nature of a level 2 router. By default, when you enable the IS-IS process
on a cisco router, it's both a level 1 and level 2 router. If you specify
that the router should only be Level 2, then all interfaces will only send
out L2 Hello's & form adjacencies with only other L2 routers, therefore
there is no need to specify that a particular interface should only send L2
hello's with the circuit-type command. The same is true is you specify that
the router is only L1 - only L1 hello's and adjacencies will be formed on
any IS-IS enabled interfaces. The only time using the circuit-type command
makes sense is if the router is both a L1 and L2 router which is the
default. In this case, it makes sense to use the circuit-type command when
directly connected routers are running either just L1 or just L2.
