Ralph: When you have a token-ring LAN and are using DLSW you configure
sou <local-ring> <bridge> <target-ring>
under the token-ring interface. Instead of a DLSW bridge-group, you use the
older RSRB command source-bridge ring-group <target-ring> command to bind
the TR to DLSW. This command is only required when
you have token-ring. Since DLSW
terminates the RIF you can use the same target-ring number or different
target-ring
numbers on peers if both peers have token-ring. If only one side has
token-ring you only need the ring-group command on the token-ring side. If
neither side has token-ring you don't need the sou ring-group command.

When you are using direct encapsulation and have token-ring on both sides.
you configure pass-thru which means the RIF
is not terminated. In this case you would want the target ring to be the
same
on either side.

Your question wasn't clear to me but hope this is on point.

Fred

on some things. It seems to me that the source bridge ring group doesn't
when you are using DLSW and other protocols. But when you use source
router bridging it does matter. Anybody care to explain why this is. It
would seem that it would matter in both but it seems to be working for me in
DLSW and I don't understand why it did.
